The Japanese Chin is a delightful toy breed which so far has received far too little recognition. His lively and active
personality will win anyone's heart in a storm. This cuddly little dog with soft
and silky hair is very precious (Dschin). There is nothing negative to be reported by their owners. The Japanese Chin does adjust himself very well, is active, does not bark much and does not bite. He loves all creatures, even a vet..Some of them are tough and others more soft. All this characters can be found combined in a Japanese Chin. The Chin is always ready for a game with humans or to be cuddled. Although the Chin is ideal for people with little space and those that cannot walk over long distances, it must be pointed out that on the other hand Chins love long walks too. They must have possiblities for exercise and be kept busy somehow by playing inside then, i.g. ball games etc.The Japanese Chin is extremely intelligent and learns fast. He is easy to train and likes to please. Two Chins would be ideal as they could play with each other. The voice of a Chin is soft and this is another advantage. He seldom barks and this makes him an ideal pet especially if kept in an appartment. He does not like to quarrel neither with humans nor with other animals. He loves children too.
The Japanese Chin is a very old breed which was bred only for the enjoyment of humans. Legends say that he is supposed
to be one third of each, monkey, cat and dog. He is smart as a monkey, soft and gentle as a cat and loyal as a dog. According to the Asian people, the most valuabe dogs are those that have a round spot on their head. According to legend, Buddha
was supposed to have left this mark (the print of Buddha's thumb) when blessing this breed and declaring it to be his  favourite breed. The Japanese Chins are playful and try to get everyone to join in. It is said that when getting excited they perform a certain
oriental dance called "Marvari" and in this the little spaniels are just unique. |

At home they do not differ between single members of the family. They love each member of the family and expect petting and
attention from all of them. The Chin is proud which is what could be expected
from a dog used to be around Royals and important people in castles and palaces of emperors. At the same time he is playful and highly recommended as a companion dog. An adult Chin will weigh between 2 and 4 kilos and stands about 25 cm high. A Japanese Chin will never disappoint his owner. He is smart and always a lot of fun |
